Another Mother Runner blog highlighted Erin Moeller who is running the Olympic marathon trails on Saturday. Erin shared that her college running coach used to say, "A positive lie is better than the negative truth; and what the mind believes, the body achieves."
You can read the entire post and the quote in context here.
I know we are supposed to be honest but don't you agree with this statement?
Any thoughts?
Is a positive lie better than a negative truth?
Still mulling this one over, I really like it but not sure I entirely agree. I'll have to sit on this idea for a bit.
And PS if you are in need of some running inspiration, which I find I'm desperate for these days, you should follow Another Mother Runner blog. Talk about some amazing women out there hitting the pavement. I love it.

i think this is pretty accurate, for me. since we have been seeing each other early in the morning, i have just had to tell myself i can do it (even though physically, it's really really hard, and at first i couldn't), but by telling myself i can (and that i have to keep up with you) it is turning into a real positive truth (still has a loooonnnnnggggg way to go), instead of a positive lie. thanks, for your encouragement and help and guidance.
Okay, I have been thinking about this for 5 days now and still am mulling it over. Will get back to you, however.
Oh my gosh I think that statement is so true!!! I know the morning of a race if i'm going to kill it or not. It's 99% mental. I truly believe success comes from the mind long before the body can comply or fight your mind's desire. And the mind wins out every time! (maybe that's why people get to a certain mile in a race and suddenly they start having trouble. Because they create trouble in their mind and the body complies) Decide you will do great things and your body can't help but prove your mind right!
