THE DIRTY DASH

In the middle of summer my darling friend Katie, who by the way is an amazing runner, AMAZING my friends, told me about a race she was interested in doing. Something called The Dirty Dash. I was instantly intrigued. When I looked up the race information, read about the course and obstacles, I knew I had to do it. Katie and her husband BJ (who is also an amazing runner) let me tag along with their team and run the race with them. I'm so glad they let me come along. It was a blast.

Let me tell you a little about this race. It took place last Saturday, September 25th. You can run it as an individual or with a team. We opted to run it as a team. The race was held at Solider Hollow where some of the 2002 Olympic winter events were held. We ran on dirt trail, where in some areas was drenched with water to make the course more challenging. The course was filled with 5 or 6 different obstacles, including a snow making machine shooting out snow at the top of one of the hills, barrels of hay you had to climb/jump over, tunnels you had to crawl through, walls to climb/jump over, and tires you had to run/walk through. Not to mention there was a secret obstacle that ended up being running in Deer Creek reservoir which was muddy, nasty and actually really hard to run in. The best obstacle by far was the HUGE SLOP 'N SLIDE going down the mountain. Seriously so much fun. Oh yeah and to cross the finish line you had to jump in this huge puddle of mud, crawl your way through it and climb up one more mound of mud. Awesome. The course itself without the obstacles was pretty tough. There were many hills with some pretty steep inclines. Needless to say this was not a race for the weak at heart!

I've posted some pictures of the event, yes even some I took from the professional photographers sight, I won't be printing them, promise. What you really need to do is get on facebook, and look at THE DIRTY DASH wall and check out the pictures posted. They are some really funny ones and you'll get a better idea of what the race was really like.

I was most nervous about climbing the walls, what can I say, I'm short and have weak arms. When I told Mike I was doing this race and told him about the course, he told me I needed to start doing push ups everyday or I wouldn't be able to do it. Thanks honey. Looks like I did ok clearing those walls after all.
Classic look of disgust/please don't fall.
Katie and I before taking the plunge into the mud pit. Here goes nothing....
Apparently I'm enjoying the mud pit.
Truth be told, it wasn't that bad, and actually felt kinda nice.
Our team after we finished. We didn't get as muddy as I thought we would but we weren't clean either. My team was awesome. BJ and Katie are such strong, fast runners, they could have finished much faster than the rest of us but were kind enough to stick with us three slow pokes. Thanks guys.
BJ, Katie, Me, Scott and Mark

The race sold out this year, (they even opened a second race for later in the day) and will for sure sell out next year. I would highly recommend putting it on your list of things to do. It's not a race that guarantees a PR, but it's a challenge full of good times and lots of laughs!

So glad I got to be part of the
FIRST EVER mud run
in good old Utah.
Can't wait for 2011!

First of all my sweet Lovey got her first of many goose eggs. It happened on Monday. It was bad. I put her in her crib for a nap. She was content, babbling to herself when all of the sudden I heard a blood, curdling scream. No joke. I go in to check on her and there is a golf ball size bump already on her forehead. I know it sounds like I'm being dramatic, but I'm not. Promise. It was huge and red. Poor girl. Her goose egg has now turned a lovely shade of blue/green/yellow. I thought it was beginning to look better today but while we were out and about running errands this morning not once but twice people commented on it. Bit traumatic but I'm sure there are MANY more to come.
Can you see it? It's in the top left corner of her forehead. Poor girl.

Also on Monday, I went to visit the sweetest baby boy, and while I was gone, I missed out on a little photo shoot. I couldn't resist posting these. I simply love how much these two adore each other. Seriously there is nothing better than seeing a grown up man, become butter around his little girl. I love these pictures. And I love how much they look alike. And I love how much Charlotte lights up when Mike comes into the room. He can make her laugh in a way no one else can. I know that's super cheesy and before Charlotte came along, I rolled my eyes at those kind of comments, but I now know it's true.
They are seriously making the same facial expressions in each picture. I LOVE IT.

Here's my favorite of the photo shoot.
Seriously? Look at the way she looks at her dad.
There's nothing better my friends.

FYI

Hey friends my sister Katherine is going private with her blog. I know some of you who read my blog read her blog as well, so if you would like to continue reading it just leave a comment on her most recent post. It's ok if she doesn't know you super well, or know you at all, she would still love for you to continue to be updated on their lives. Don't be shy, we all blog stalk. Really she would love it. Thanks.

Obvious

Isn't it obvious where Charlotte gets her bed head from?

Or really just her looks in general?
She is clearly a mini Mike, and I love it.
Love them both.

One more picture of the bed head for good measure...

Once again, another September MUST!

Sorry another post about my love for September...

I can't think of anything more enjoyable to do on a Saturday night in Utah during the month of September than go to the State Fair. (Ok, maybe there are a couple of things that would measure up, but not many!)

We put Charlotte to bed and then headed out for a night of fun!
We loved seeing all the animals, including those in cages and those out walking around, if you know what I mean. (Although the fair was more expensive than I thought it would be, it was practically worth it for the excellent people watching and playing the game "FIND IT")
That is one big pig. (I'm referring to the one laying down of course. :) )
And we even played a couple of mandatory fair games. Mike won the stuffed dog for me. Am I a lucky girl or what? Throwing darts at balloons is among Mike's many talents.
I should have taken more pictures, as per usual, I guess we were having too much fun at the fair.
I hope your enjoying September as much as we are!

PS How perfect has the weather been? Can't beat low 80's and complete sunshine with blues skies. Another reason to love Utah and September.

Do you go to your state fair?
What's the biggest animal you have ever seen?
Do you have to play the games at the fair? Ever won a prize?
Please share!

September Checklist

First of all, thanks for all the birthday wishes. Man did I feel loved on my special day. One of the highlights of the day was a birthday serenade by my darling niece, Gracie Wallin, complete with a microphone and finger point . I know you're jealous, I would be too.

September is going well thus far, just as I hoped.

Ran the Swiss Days 10k and loved it.
Even got a PR for a 10k. Wahoo!

Now Charlotte and I are off to Joann's for another item on my September checklist!
Let the sewing begin!

How are you doing on your check list?
Enjoying September so far?
What are you going to do to celebrate National Sewing Month?
Please share!

**Post edit. PR stands for Personal Record, meaning your fastest time for that particular race. Good question Lacey!

Welcome September

SEPTEMBER HAS ARRIVED,

and I couldn't be happier.

September is one of my favorite months because...
it's my birthday month,
college football begins,
the air becomes a little cooler and crisp but it's not full on freezing,
one of my favorite 10ks falls in the month of September,
and it's National Sewing Month.

I love summer but there is something so refreshing
about September and the beginning of a new season.

I plan on making the best of this month by...
Try some new things with sewing with the help of this fabulous blog.
Embrace being 28 and revel in the fact I'm becoming older and wiser.
(Not sure about the wiser part but I'm trying.)
Take Charlotte up the beautiful canyons of Utah
and have her experience fall and the changing color of leaves.

What are your plans for the month of September?
Do you have a favorite month?
What's your favorite season?
Ready for fall or dreading the change of weather?
What fun sewing projects are you working on this month?
Please share!

And I couldn't resist posting a few pictures of what we've been up to lately. Enjoy.
PS Walker family we've got to be better at taking pictures when we are together!
We ALWAYS have a good time when we are together but have no pictures to show for it! BOO.
Let's work together on taking pictures more often ok?
