Lately I've been feeling a little "down in the dumps". Not really sure why. Maybe it's because of the crappy snow we got this morning. Yes, this was taken this morning looking out onto our front yard. May I remind you it's May 24th. MAY! No more snow please. Forget Spring, I'm ready for summer.
Anyway I've been having one of those weeks where I just couldn't get myself motivated to do anything. I hate feeling that way. I haven't been productive with my days, embarrassing to admit, but it's true. I was finding myself watching more TV than I normally do, putting my hair in a pony tail, letting laundry pile up, you get the idea. It's not like there weren't things that I needed to do, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. You ever have those days? Those kind of weeks?
Well, I knew I needed to find something useful to do with my time. I knew I needed to get my butt in gear and snap out of it. I knew I needed to forget about myself and help someone out. I found this great idea on this blog; making dresses for little girls in Africa! It looked simple enough and was for a great cause. I'm happy to report, I followed through with the project and got it done all in one day! Amazingly Charlotte had perfect naps today which allowed me to bust out this little dress.
You can make the dress using an old pillowcase or buy material and start from scratch. I opted to buy my own material and it was super easy to make. I'm so happy with how it turned out. I'm so glad I found a way to give to someone else.
President Monson, president of the LDS church in October 2009 said,
"To find real happiness, we must seek for it in a focus outside ourselves. No one has learned the meaning of living until he has surrendered his ego to the service of his fellow man. Service to others is akin to duty, the fulfillment of which brings true joy. We do not live alone—in our city, our nation, or our world. There is no dividing line between our prosperity and our neighbor’s wretchedness. “Love thy neighbor” is more than a divine truth. It is a pattern for perfection."
Don't you find this to be true? You're the happiest when you forget about yourself and help someone else out?
You can get involved too! Just read here and see how you can help! It's so easy and I know like me you'll be so glad you did!
Have you done any kind deeds lately?
Have you had any kind deeds done for you?
What do you like to do when feeling down in the dumps?
Ever made a dress out of a pillowcase or made something else using a pillowcase?

Oh, dude... I heard about the snow this morning... and I'M SO SORRY. Another reason to love Philly?? :)
What a great blog! I'm going to check it out a bit more in depth-- thank you for providing the site!
Nice job on the apron too!! It looks wonderful.. and I'm jealous your sewing machine has that cute scalloped stitch.. (mine lacks)
Anywho, now that you've endured such a wet spring, you guys certainly deserve a nice hot summer!!
Love this post- love the Pres. M quote-- thank you for the pick me up!
Good for you for looking for a way "out" of the blues!
I was involved with Mothers Without Borders for a while and they do a similar thing for the little African girls. It does your heart good to share.
Love you Sugar!
darling dress!
I am definitely more on the receiving end of good deeds lately than doing them for others... Most my days lately are spend wondering when this little girl is going to decide to make her debut. I'm pretty worthless (even though I have A TON I could be doing).
Love the dresses, you are an inspriation. Love you.
so impressed... you are amazing
I love that you made the choice to fight being down in the dumps. It's not easy to do that, and in addition you rocked that little dress, it is so cute! I have had plenty of those days over the last year and I don't know that I always recover from them quite so quickly or productively. You are now my motivation to make the most of an off-day!!!
you are so good. i have been so down in the dumps lately, but i have not chosen to rise above!!
way to go sis.
and darling dress, i love the fabric you chose.
oh, lar - i'm sorry that you have been "down" - please call me anytime to chat. i find myself feeling that way so often, but i have yet to turn it around and do good for other people - you are an inspiration!
p.s. i have that mother book for you - i'll drop it by your house in the next day or two!
Adorable dress! It makes me wish I could sew!
I hope you are feeling better and I'll pray for warmer weather for you guys! You can have some of ours!
It's hard to feel unmotivated. :( I'm glad you got yourself going, though! I love the dress! It's so cute! Now you'll need to make one for Charlotte!
Yes, lack of sunshine totally makes me feel glum. But look at you- so inspiring! You are such a great example...I really want to make one too and spread the word.Barb gave me this book she recommended for one of my friends. anyway, it's called Wake up to a Happier Life by Amanda Dickson. It is a bit cheesy, but tehre were some points I really liked. she just talks about finding joy in the most basic jobs... like finding satisfaction in having a clean kitchen after dinner clean-up...or on nights when you are so tired you would rather just skip the bathtime routine she talks about how great it feels to have a fresh clean baby. and to enjoy yummy smell of your baby once the bath is done. Anyway, I have really liked reading bits and pieces of it so much that I have not even given it to my friend yet oops!:) But I think you are doing great to find joy in the simple things:) You are awesome!
