Today Laura and I went Cicada hunting. I was driving between hospitals earlier this week and found a forest preserve filled with the unusual bugs. Since we have been more than disappointed with the showing of the "17-year phenomenon" around our house we went to find some Cicadas. We got some good pictures that we thought would be nice to share. Enjoy
This is a picture of the holes left behind after their emergence from under ground.
This is a picture of what they look like just after leaving the ground (right side) and just after they break out of the nymph stage shell (left side)
There were so many shells from the nymph stage stuck all over the leaves. They were everywhere!
Laura was worried that one would fly down her shirt so she had to put on the hood for protection.
We were gone for a long time and sometimes you need a snack

crazy lar, you are like in a discovery channel special! i am sure it is just nuts to be surrounded by this crazy natural phenomenon. i would be scared it would fall down my shirt too! good call with the hoody. and you look really cute in that picture!
I understand they taste like almonds. What do you think?
I will look forward to future updates!
Mike, I'm so impressed YOU updated the blog. You are so technical. I know you ate one of cicadas after Laura shot the picture. I hear they have a lot of protein. It's good to know you two are spending quality time together.
Those really are cool!! Do you know if there are any in Cleveland?? I am impressed with the photography too-those should be published! Hey Mike, how did they taste??
Mikey I am so proud of you for posting! Maybe Lancer will post something sometime. I am also proud of you for eating a crunchy cicada. Sike. Sicko. (PS, I know that's not really how you spell psych)
Oh wow! that is just crazy. Good thing you are coming to Utah in a little bit to escape those nasty bugs. Now all you have to look forward to are the mosquitos in Utah! Yay. I seriously can't wait to see you guys and hang out. 24 more days until July! Mike, nice blog entry!
