I just finished reading this book. It's the story of Chris McCandless who after graduating from college, left everything behind, including his family, to live "off the land" and eventually hitchhike his way to Alaska. After hitchhiking across the country for nearly two years, Chris finally makes it to Alaska, where he spends four months before his life ends. (Don't worry I didn't spoil the book) I'm not usually into nonfiction, but I was intrigued and enthralled by this book. In some ways I completely envy and admire Chris for leaving everything behind (modern society) and fulfilling his dream of an explorer/adventurer. But on the other hand I was upset with Chris for the way he left everything behind including his family without communicating with them once he left. If anyone has read this book, please share your opinion. If you haven't read this book, I highly recommend taking the time to read it, and then letting me know your thoughts.

yeah, i read this book a couple of years ago. i'll i remember is that i liked it and that because of reading his story i don't ever want to go on adventures by myself.
I read it like early in college I think, and I totally agree - it's enthralling how he can see outside of all the "stuff" in his life and just let go like that. It seems like something that is good to think about, but to take it a stop further and follow through. Interesting. I guess it's just the way he follows through and detaches is where (I agree) he seems really selfish - any time I'm adventuring all I can think about is how I wish I had friends or family with me.
I am intrigued with this book. I read it years ago and still think about.... can you imagine
