I didn't want to believe it.

One thing I wanted when I was pregnant was for my baby to have hair when she was born. I don't know why, I just really wanted her to have hair. Well, I got my wish. Charlotte came out with lots of fuzzy, dark hair that flipped out all over the place. Oh it was beautiful. I was such a proud momma. My arrogant side loved having the nurses tell me how much they loved Charlotte's hair and how cute they thought she was. What mother doesn't love it when they are told their child/children are beautiful?

This picture was taken a couple of days after she was born. Look at her full head of hair. So pretty right? (biased mom again)
My mom said Charlotte would lose all of her hair. It always made me upset when she said this. I love my little Charlotte's hair. I didn't want to believe her. She had so much when she was born there was no way she was going to lose it all.

But my friends, I'm afraid I'm wrong. My sweet darling IS losing her hair and all too quickly. My sister Emily thinks it's pretty comical. I don't. She took this picture of Charlotte with her phone and sent it to me with the caption, "Headband or skin?"
Poor Charlotte. Don't be fooled. It's not a headband, it's her skin. You think this is bad? You should see the top of her head, her hair is very thin. The little patch of hair above her neck gives me hope. It's dark, long, thick hair. (almost long enough to put in a little rat tail pony) So eventually when her hair does grown in, it will be beautiful again.

Mom you WERE right. I guess moms know everything after all. Dang it.

I am sorry! I am with you though...Everyone has told me that the boys will lose their hair and I was starting to think that they won't because they are a month old tomorrow...but I guess they still might lose their hair! :( Hang in there, it will grow back! :)

Oh man...your first "my child won't" moment! Luckily she has a mama with gorgeous hair, so I think she'll have lovely locks!

Fret not. It comes back, thicker, quicker, and fuller than before!! I remember my doc telling me to enjoy the newborn hair because henry would lose it fast.... and sure enough, he looked like a chemo patient for some weeks. Then, whala!!! Hair presto!

It really is cute- the "headband of skin". Endearing!!! She's still beautiful!

oh that photo is so funny. i love lou, headband or skin, so clever! but i am sorry. still not fun to have it just fall out!! but don't worry, she will have a beautiful, thick mullet before you know it.

You won't want to hear this . . . but having had 2 girls I might suggest you cut off that chunk in the back so that when it comes in on the rest of her head, it's all even. Odessa has the thickest, nicest hair because we buzzed her head when she was a baby and all her hair is the same length. She had hair in back, but not front- so instead of letting her get a mullet or wispy newborn hair, we buzzed it!
Charlotte will have great hair, no worries.

Charlotte is beautiful regardless! At least she started out with hair. Rachel was pretty close to bald through her whole first year!

Do you remember how bald Maddy was? Bald. Very bald. She didn't even grow respectable hair until she was 2. Now she has great hair. Charlotte's hair will grow back thicker and even more gorgeous, and soon you will have it up in pony tails. I bet by the time she's 1 she will have pony tails. She is absolutely precious. Come visit and I'll gladly babysit all day and you can go play.

Harper had tons, lost it all and it came back SO quick. I love the pic Emily took, you will thank her later.

Laura,

My sweet Hayden had tons of hair like your Charlotte, and he lost it too. It didn't fall out, it just grew out long and thin. But never fear, he now has a full head of hair again. She is very sweet though, skin band and all!

I don't have any baby stories to reassure you of hair growth, but I can bet that Charlotte will have a fabulous head of hair like her mama one day and will be humiliated when you pull out this picture to show her first boyfriend. heehee.

i LOVE this. charlotte is so perfect and she is bound to have spectacular hair... hello you are her mama. my girls are doomed (although cj has seemed to not inherit my 'bad hair' gene).

The same thing happened to Andrew - it was so sad. Since he was pretty red-headed when he was born, when it fell out, it fell out at the top first and he had this sad little band of hair that made him look like a baby "Bozo the Clown." It was pitiful. Hilarious, but so pitiful. It will grow back though!!!
